My Review:
Summary –
A woman on the run, a handsome Scotsman professing love, can a snowstorm force Rose to admit the truth? Rose is an accomplished stage actress but she must go into hiding to escape an abusive relationship. Being a saloon singer in Wylder isn't so bad, especially when she meets Callum. He treats her right and even proposes marriage. She keeps her past hidden from him because she doesn't want to hurt him. But when her past suddenly shows up, she knows it's time for last call. Heading to California is her only recourse, or so she thinks. Callum has other ideas and tries to convince her to take a chance on him and true love. Will Rose kiss Wylder and Callum goodbye or will she trust in love?
Narrator’s overall voice –
Dawson McBride’s voice is full-bodied with depth and character. Whether he’s narrating in Rose’s voice or Callum’s voice, he brings the characters' thoughts and feelings to life. The tenor of Dawson’s voice makes for an incredible listening experience. Such a brilliant performance.
Does the narrator fit the characters?
Yes, Dawson McBride fits the characters perfectly. I closed my eyes while listening and imagined him in the old west with his cowboy hat slung low over his eyes. I especially loved his Scottish brogue.
Narrator’s reading style –
The reading style is nice and slow with a smooth baritone voice. He pauses when the story needs it and picks up speed during some intense scenes. He innately knows how to pull the listener into the story. I could listen to this over and over and never be bored.
Narrator’s impact on reading experience –
It’s all about the partnership between Dawson McBride and Jane Lewis. Jane Lewis is a brilliant writer who writes with passion and Dawson brings that story to life through his performance.
Narrator’s pacing –
The pacing is perfect with just the right amount of dramatic flair.
Audiobook flow –
The flow of this audiobook is so impressive. As someone who has listened to her fair share of audiobooks, this audiobook listens like a professional theatre production.
What makes this audiobook unique –
This audiobook reminds me of everything I love about old-west movies but in listening format. The story and the narration will transport you.
Would I recommend this audiobook –
YES! This is the best audiobook I’ve heard this year. So wonderful.
