Title: Trip the Light Phantasmic (The Gothic Gwyn Mysteries, Book One)

Author: Judith Sterling

Genre: Gothic Paranormal Mystery

Book Blurb:

Gwyneth Camm has just inherited her great-aunt’s house in Salem, Massachusetts, along with an extensive collection of gothic romance novels. As a PhD student who prefers “serious” books, Gwyn has always avoided pulp fiction. Now, in honor of her beloved Aunt Ethel, she gives one of the gothics a try…and promptly falls asleep.

When she wakes, she finds herself inside the story, thrust by forces unknown into the heroine’s role. There’s magic afoot, and the only way back to her own life is to play her part and solve the mystery.

When fiction becomes fact, anything can happen…

My Review:

Wow, what an intoxicating gothic paranormal mystery! To say I loved this book is the understatement of the year. I’ve been an avid reader of this author for several years. I’ve read her other two series, so I had high expectations. How did she do? Read on to find out…

The premise of this book piqued my interest right away. How was it going to work, though? The execution of it came down to Judith Sterling’s masterful writing technique. Using descriptive narration, she set the gothic mystery vibe throughout the story. Every scene had an ominous tone, an unseen malice, which had me whipping through the pages. I stayed up late one night to finish reading.

The characters were each a mystery to unravel. My favorite character was Gwyn and I connected with her right away. She propelled the plot, and it was such fun reading the entire story from her point of view.

The world-building was impeccable and classic Judith Sterling. The paranormal aspects were brilliant. Imaginative yet realistic, I couldn’t put this book down. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommend!
