Title: Kissing Charlie

Author: Elsa Winckler

Genre: Contemporary Small Town Romance

Publisher Inkspell

Book Blurb:

One Kiss Will Change Their Lives Forever

Bowen therapist Charlie Wilson is not interested in men or relationships. Her only concern is making sure her sister Lindsay is safe.

But then billionaire Logan Johnson walks into her rooms and stirs powerful feelings inside of her. Logan’s perfectly knotted tie is a clear indication free-spirit Charlie should steer clear of him at all costs.

They are complete opposites, so why does he keep kissing her?

Excerpt:

“How did you hurt your back?” Her voice was cool, and she wasn’t meeting his eyes.

“While hiking,” he said curtly. He was in pain; it didn’t matter what the hell happened. “Tell me about this Wowen, Bowen, whatever the hell you call this cr—therapy.”

She gave him a cool look. “It’s called Bowen Therapy.”

“Bowen Therapy,” he said, his gaze on her mouth.

“The guiding principles of the technique were established by Tom Bowen during the 1950s. It focuses on the whole person, not just the condition. In other words, it treats the cause, not only the symptoms. It helps the body to heal and restores the balance by shifting the body from your innate ‘fight or flight’ system to a more natural state of calm.”

He watched her as she studied his body. She was holding something in her hand. Damn, she had yet to touch him, but he was struggling not to react to her nearness. The fact that he was lying on his back wasn’t helping, either.

“Natural state of calm? With you doing strange things to my body?” he grumbled, only realizing the ambiguity of his words when they hung in the air around them.

Her lips twitched.

“Oh, you think this is funny?” he snarled.

“I think you’re in pain. I think you like being in control and at the moment, you’re not. That’s why you feel the need to lash out. But it’s fine. I often have children throwing tantrums.”

“I’m not throwing a tantrum, damn it…” He tried to sit up straight, but a pain shot up his back, and groaning, he had to slowly lie down again.

“The movements in Bowen Therapy,” she continued as if he hadn’t interrupted her, “are very distinctive and are used on precise points on the body. It involves moving the soft tissue in a particular way. I will use a rolling-type movement, using my fingers, hands, or sometimes my elbow. It will create a focus for the brain by stimulating the nerve pathways and tissue. I work on only a small area, depending how far your skin can move. What you may find strange—”

“This whole damn day is strange. I don’t know what the hell my mother was thinking,” he muttered.

Author Biography:

Elsa has been reading love stories for as long as she can remember and when she ‘met’ the classic authors like Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Henry James, the Brontë sisters, etc. during her Honors studies, she was hooked for life.

Although her three gown-up children rarely acknowledge the fact they have a romance-writing mom, her husband fortunately, is very proud of her, reads every word and is happy to make sure she gets the kissing scenes just right.

She likes the heroines in her stories to be beautiful, feisty, independent and headstrong. And the heroes must be strong but possess a generous amount of sensitivity. They are of course, also gorgeous. Her stories typically incorporate the family background of the characters to better understand where they come from and who they are when we meet them in the story.

Excerpt:

And then, he simply had to hear her voice. He phoned. She picked up after one ring.

“Blake?”

Water? Was that what he heard. So it meant she… He inhaled sharply. “Are you in the bath?”

“Uhm…yes.”

Shaking his head, he swore softly. “Do you have any idea what the image of you in a bath does to me?”

“Blake…” Her soft voice in his ear sent his blood boiling. She inhaled shakily. “Where are you?”

“On your bed.”

“My bed?”

“Yeah. Your bed. I came to get my bag but then I walked into your room, sat down on your bed and…I must’ve fallen asleep.”

“It’s a nice bed.”

“It’s a very nice bed.”

For a few moments it was silent. But he could hear her moving in the bath. Damn.

“Jim phoned,” he said, to distract himself from the noises of her splashing.

“Jim?”

“Policeman from this morning?”

“Oh, yes. Anything?”

“I’m afraid not.”

“Do you know where Mark is?”

“No.”

Again, it was quiet for a few minutes.

“You kissed me,” she said.

“I did.”

“Twice.”

“Indeed.”

“Why?”

“I…I was worried about you.”

“Do you kiss everyone you’re worried about?”

Thinking of the many weird characters he’d worried about at some time or another over the span of his life, he had to grin. “No.”

“That’s not an answer!” she called out.

“That’s my answer.” He waited a beat. “For now.”

Can two friends fake love or will their fake relationship end their real friendship?

Irritated by their families continued efforts to get them together, good friends widow Brooke Johnson and Gavin Wilson decide to fake a relationship for the next two weeks. But then Gavin kisses her, making her aware of the desires she’d suppressed for so long.

Suddenly, Brooke struggles to focus on finishing paintings for an upcoming exhibition and her simple life becomes way more complicated than before.

Brooke had made a vow to handle her own problems rather than relying on someone. Her husband’s death had left her in the dark about finances. She couldn’t let Gavin take over but will their new romance stand up to her hands off attitude? Or will Brooke learn that it’s okay to lean on the ones you love sometimes?

But in the small town of Alisson, Montana, love will find a way.

Excerpt:

She began pacing again. “We haven’t thought this through. Oh, I like your kisses, toe-curling as I’ve said, but what about Connor? He’s desperate for a father figure in his life, and he already likes you. How will he handle our fake relationship? What do we tell him and what happens when we break up?” Out of breath, she finally stopped pacing and looked at Gavin.

He was staring at her.

She threw up her arm. “Great. You’re already sorry about the whole mess. Well, unless you run after my mother and stop her from telling another soul, everyone in Alisson will know we’re a couple before night falls.”

“So you like my kisses? Toe-curling, you call them.”

Brooked opened and closed her mouth a few times before she could string words together. “That’s all you got, from everything else I’ve said?”

He approached her slowly. “You haven’t answered my question. You liked my kisses?” By the time he’d finished speaking, they were toe to toe.

She rolled her eyes. “Seriously? We have things to discuss, a contract to sign… Where is the contract, by the way?”

“I’ll answer your question when you answer mine.”

She threw both her hands in the air. “Yes, damn it, I liked your kisses. I dreamed about your kisses. Hap—?”

His mouth was on hers before she could finish speaking. His lips were warm and urgent. Within seconds, a wild torrent of passion nearly lifted her off her feet. In a desperate attempt to stay upright, she grabbed hold of his arms, but that was a mistake. Beneath her fingers, hard muscles rippled, making her already heated blood nearly boiling hot.

She shouldn’t be doing this. Kissing Gavin Wilson was such a bad idea. Enjoying Gavin Wilson’s kissing was an even worse one, but how did she stop this when it felt so incredibly right? Right?

Whoa.

With superhuman effort, she pulled back. They were both panting.

Quickly, she moved away and turned her back on Gavin. “That… I told you that can’t happen again!” She had difficulty getting the words out.

For long minutes, all she could hear was his heavy breathing. Or was it hers?

“Can I tell you what I think of your so-called contract?”

She turned to face him again. “You were the one who thought faking a relationship was a good idea. I agreed, but with conditions—”

He swore. Her eyes widened. She’d never heard him swear before.

Slowly, he advanced while pulling something out of the pocket of his jeans. It was the contract. He ripped it in four pieces. “This is what I think of you so-called contract.

Can he convince her that what’s between them is much more than just biology?

But when he’s roped in to take part in the ridiculous bachelor’s auction, he ends up spending more time with the elusive Stacey until he forgets why he wanted to avoid her in the first place.

Too old to play games, Jason suggests they spend time together but Stacey seems convinced that their attraction is just biology. Is she right or are his feelings for the redhead much more than a mere chemical reaction?

Excerpt:

Combing her hair out of her face, she looked him in the eye. “What do you want, Jason?”

“I think I was pretty clear about that.”

Angling her head, she smiled. “You do know what you’re…okay, I’ll admit, it’s not just you. You do know what we’re feeling is just biology, right?”

“Really?”

“Oh, yes. You should do an internet search on the topic—very enlightening. Our dopamine and norepinephrine levels are high at the moment because…well, because for some or other reason we’re…we’re attracted to one another. But it’ll pass. It always does,” she gestured with her hand, lifting her chin. “There is scientific proof that it does. Quite a few experiments confirm the same results.”

Exasperated, he stared at her. Here he was, just about bursting out of his skin for wanting her, and she coolly told him what he was feeling was “just” biology?

“Tell you what,” he said, equally coolly, and put his hands on her hips. “Why don’t we take the experiment a little further?”

She immediately pulled his hands away from her hips but didn’t drop them. “What do you mean?”

“Let’s kiss. Maybe we won’t feel a thing,” he said as he bent his head slowly, giving her a chance to back away if she’d wanted to. He was near enough to catch her soft gasp. The slight tremor in her hands echoed in his heart. “Maybe you’re right,” he continued as his mouth lightly touched her ear. “Maybe this burning in my belly can be explained away by biology.”

This time he was expecting the gasp, and gently catching her lips in a kiss, he swallowed the sound. He only lingered for a few seconds before he lifted his head. Their mouths mere millimeters apart. “What do you think?” he murmured.

In the dim light of the streetlights her eyes were nearly black. “About…about what?” Her gaze was fixed on his lips, it took just about all his willpower not to simply pick her up and carry her to his truck.

He couldn’t help smiling. “About what just happened. The kiss?”

With a soft mutter, she dropped her hands and turned toward her car. “If that’s your idea of a kiss, it’s no wonder you’re still single,” she threw over her shoulder.

He reached her car seconds before she did. “Wanna show me?”

“Go home, Jason, I’m not in the mood for playing games.”

“I was hoping we could test your theory, but if you’re too chicken…”

Her hands had slipped around his neck before he could blink. “You wanna kiss? Let me show you how it’s done.” Lifting her on her toes, she kissed him.

One minute he was still amused, but then soft, warm lips covered his and he forgot to breathe. His blood rushed through his body, extinguishing every other sound around them. Her unique scent, her soft curves fitting perfectly against his body, the soft sounds she made in her throat, sent his senses into overdrive and nearly brought him to his knees.

And then she was gone. Her car door slammed shut and she was driving away before he could catch his next breath.
