Title: Waltzing with the Earl
Author: Alanna Lucas
Genre: Historical Romance, Regency Romance
Book Blurb:
A Prophecy Foretold
Isabel Albryght is hating her first season. If she hadn’t lost that wager with her brother Weston over a game of chess, she would be home now with her beloved books. Eternally clumsy, and with no flowery words or feminine wiles at her disposal, there seems little chance that what Weston wants—her hand to be asked for in marriage—will happen.
Tristram, Lord Trevena, endures each season’s whirl of balls and parties weighed down by the blight that has cursed his family. He can never allow himself to marry. But when his old friend, Weston, asks for a favor—dance with his awkward sister a few times—he has to agree, although he determines he will only do so twice as he will not let himself get any closer.
Suddenly, Isabel finds herself being swept off her feet by the handsome Lord Trevena. Waltzing in Tristram’s arms is heavenly, and when they almost share a kiss, her world tilts on its axis. Where once she was a wallflower, now she is an eager debutante hoping this new romance will blossom further.
But is calamity about to strike again?
My Review:
Isabel Albryght would rather be surrounded by her books in the country than participate in the season. But she made a promise to her elder brother and so she attends one party/ball after another. Her nervousness causes unfortunate accidents that the ton won’t let her forget. She’s appalled and humiliated, her confidence slipping away.
On a whim, Isabel’s brother asks his old friend, Tristram, Lord Trevena, the Earl of Longstone, for a favor. Just two dances, he begs, and Tristram reluctantly agrees. Tristram’s only in town for a short period of time and then it’s back to the country. The last thing he needs is to become entangled with a young woman and activate the dreaded family curse. Tristram and Isabel dance together at the very next ball and sparks fly. Will Tristram let Isabel into his heart, the family curse ignored, or will he sacrifice his own happiness to save the life of the one woman who sweeps him off his feet?
Waltzing with the Earl is an emotional historical romance filled with a family curse, a nervous heroine, brotherly help, and misunderstandings galore. I connected with Isabel right away. Her nervousness, her low confidence, her book-loving nature, and her passion all combine to make her a heroine I adore. She often self-destructs and thinks the worst of herself, especially when it comes to love, which makes for an enjoyable reading experience. Alanna Lucas has rebooted the whole A Waltz With Destiny series and it’s even better than the original. This is the last book in the series and the first book I ever read by her several years ago. The beginning, middle, and end all embody dancing, and the feel of waltzing saturates the storyline. The writing is flawless, and historically accurate, with tender, romantic moments. The pacing is perfect, allowing the reader to be whisked away into the story. If you’re a historical romance reader, you’re going to love Waltzing with the Earl. If historical romance is your reading jam, pick up Waltzing with the Earl. A stunning end to one of my all-time favorite historical romance series. Highly recommend!
