Kimberly Baer’s Would You Rather… is the latest great read in the exciting Haunting of Pinedale High series, brought to us by the talented YA authors at The Wild Rose Press. This book is a perfect addition to the series, offering a thrilling blend of suspense, creativity, and fun.
The story kicks off with a seemingly harmless game of “Would You Rather” hosted by a mysterious substitute teacher. The students are asked to choose between unsettling scenarios: Would you rather be an amazing artist or a brilliant mathematician? Would you rather lose your mother or your father? Would you rather roast to death or freeze to death? What begins as a playful exercise quickly turns sinister when the choices made by the students start coming true.
As the game spirals out of control, classmates Ava, Blake, and Charlie must race against time to find the elusive substitute teacher and convince him to end the curse before more lives are lost. The pressure mounts as they discover the teacher’s role in this dark, twisted situation—and the true danger they face is far worse than they imagined.
Baer’s writing is fast-paced and engaging, with short chapters that make it easy to keep turning the pages. I was glued to it from page one. The alternating character perspectives add depth and keep the story fresh, giving readers a chance to see the unfolding events through different lenses. The characters are all unique and have their own distinct personalities—one in particular even had me laughing out loud.
Would You Rather… is an imaginative, thoroughly entertaining read that perfectly captures the suspenseful spirit of the Haunting of Pinedale High series. It’s a must-read for fans of YA thrillers, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a gripping, fun story that will keep you hooked from start to finish.
