Title: YOURS…MINE…ALWAYS: A BLACKE BROTHERS NOVEL

Author: CADENCE VONN

Genre: EROTIC ROMANTIC SUSPENSE

Book Blurb:

Laura Barrett is a strong and determined woman. After surviving an attack by a sadistic stalker, she avoids relationships and focuses on her job, and most of all, her painting. Living day to day, she doesn’t believe in all that nonsense about karma…until her world spins upside down and she ends up in the arms of a stranger.

Jonathan is the last Blacke brother without a partner. Unlike his siblings, he proclaims he’ll take his time falling in love—if ever. When he rescues Laura, his body betrays his conviction to stay single. He’ll protect her with his life if necessary. Sex with her is off the charts, but she’ll bolt and take his heart if the danger chasing her threatens his family.

Destiny is a powerful force. It’ll take all his connections and sexual creativity to convince her to believe in fate…and his love.

Excerpt:

“Do you believe in guardian angels?” Laura asked.

Jonathan nodded. “I suppose. I’ve had my moments where I thought there was a greater force saving me from myself. How about you?”

Laura’s smile straight-lined. She bit her lip and nodded. “I’m sure I have one.” She moved away from the paintings and wandered into the next room of the museum. He didn’t miss the fear that clouded her eyes before she glanced down and away from his face. He followed her and rested his hand in the dip at the base of her back, sensing she needed some sort of comfort.

“I bet you like this room,” she said. “Paintings of landscapes and old buildings. If you love renovating old places, you might like the architecture.”

He looked around. “I love any scene that has to do with a simple life. I’m always amazed when I walk into a gallery filled with different scenes and none of them have the same lighting. Each painter creates his or her idea of the greens or blues found in nature. Just the drift of a cloud over the sun turns a field of grass into deep, impenetrable grays. Kind of like your eyes. They speak your emotions without words.” He leaned down and brushed his lips over hers. When he lifted his head, he smiled. “Passion lies right under the surface of their depths. If we were alone, I’d kiss you again until you moaned. Hm. That sent gold sparks dancing around the edges of turquoise. If you let me, I plan on kissing you again later.”

She clung to his leather coat. He could swallow her up with his piercing gaze. He overpowered her senses, but she didn’t feel afraid. It’d been two years since she allowed a man near her. Justin had seen to that. His need to control sucked the life out of her. She vowed never again. Releasing her hold, she stepped away from his intoxicating heat. Not commenting on his statement, she moved off into the next gallery, trying to sort out her emotions.

The heavy scent of sandalwood attacked her senses, and she spun around, looking for the man who wore the cologne. A glimpse of blond hair and a navy pea coat caught her attention, and she moved quickly toward the door where the man disappeared. When she reached the opening, she looked up and down the hall but didn’t see the person. It couldn’t be Justin; he was dead. A hand touched her shoulder, and she jumped away from the contact.

“Just me.” Jonathan held up his hands in surrender. He moved closer so he could caress her arm then her cheek. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

She covered her mouth, but a brittle laugh escaped. “Can we leave?” She darted a look down the hall again, making sure the specter of Justin wasn’t standing there watching them.

“Sure. Would you like to take a cab instead of the subway?”

“Yes. That’d be good.”

He took her hand and led her to the door of the museum where they could flag a taxi. “Where to?” he asked when they climbed inside.

“Your hotel.” Justin might know where her brother lived. He knew everything about her. She’d been the insane man’s obsession.

Jonathan gave the driver the address then sat back and cradled her against his body. Tim’s words filtered into her brain. “Don’t trust anyone.” She ignored the thought. A sense of safety emanated from Jon.

The taxi stopped in front of a painted brick and stone hotel. She stayed close to him, her head down, as he ushered her through the lobby and into the elevator. Releasing her breath, she leaned against his side, glad they were alone.

“There’s a bottle of white wine in the refrigerator. Would you like a glass?” he asked when they stepped inside his suite. He removed his coat and threw it over the upholstered chair then took hers and hung it on the extra hanger in the closet. She wrapped her arms around her waist, trying to stop shaking.

“I hope you’re not afraid of me. I’d never hurt you.” Tears spilled over her lashes, and she didn’t resist when he pulled her into his arms. “Tell me what’s wrong?”

“He’s supposed to be dead.”

“Who?”

She pressed against his chest, her tears dampening his shirt. A deep sigh deflated her body, and he tightened his arms around her. “A man who stalked me.”

“Did you see him back at the museum?”

“He’s dead. I couldn’t see him, right?” Her frightened gaze pleaded for him to tell her it was just her imagination.

“What made you think of him?”

“The aftershave he always wore. It was so heavy in the air of that room. Then I caught a glimpse of a man leaving with a coat just like his. I’m sorry. I really need to go.” She tried to push past him, but he refused to release her.

“Not until I know you’re safe. Can I call your brother?”

“Justin might know where Tim lives. I can’t go back there. Besides, my brother almost had me committed when all this happened originally. He finally believed me when I got the restraining order.”

“Then you’re not leaving here. We’ll figure out how to test your theory about the man you saw today, and in the meantime, I’ll keep you safe.”

“You can’t. He hurts people.” A sudden sob bubbled up her throat, and she cried in earnest against him. “I don’t want you hurt,” she choked out between gulps of air.

“No one’s going to hurt me or you. Let’s sit down. I want you to tell me what happened.” She didn’t resist when he led her over to the couch and pulled her down so she rested against his crossed knee and looked him in the face. “Now, why do you think this man should be dead?”
